Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

Do I need to create an account to use ProfileForge?

+

No account required! ProfileForge works entirely in your browser. Your resume data is saved locally on your device. This means you can start creating your resume immediately without any sign-up process.

How do I save my resume progress?

+

Your progress is automatically saved in your browser's local storage. You can close the browser and return later to continue where you left off. For additional safety, we recommend downloading your resume as a PDF when you complete each section.

Can I edit a resume I created previously?

+

Yes! Click the "Edit Existing Resume" button on the homepage. Your browser will load your saved resume from local storage. If you're using a different browser or device, you can upload your previously downloaded PDF or Word file to continue editing.

Download & Export

What file formats can I download my resume in?

+

ProfileForge supports three download formats:
1. PDF - Perfect for printing and email applications
2. Word (DOCX) - Editable format for further customization
3. Text (TXT) - Simple text format for online forms

Is my resume ATS (Applicant Tracking System) friendly?

+

Yes! All our templates are designed to be ATS-friendly. We use clean formatting, standard fonts, and proper section headers. Avoid using the "Creative" template for ATS-heavy applications as its two-column layout might not parse correctly in some systems.

Why is my PDF file size large?

+

We generate high-quality PDFs suitable for professional printing (300 DPI). This results in larger file sizes but ensures your resume looks perfect when printed. For email applications, the file size is still within acceptable limits (usually 200-500KB).

Editing & Updates

How do I update my existing resume?

+

Simply click "Edit Existing Resume" on the homepage. Your browser will load the last saved version. Make your changes and save again. Your updated version will replace the previous one in browser storage.

Can I create multiple versions of my resume?

+

Yes! You can create multiple resumes by:
1. Starting a new resume from scratch
2. Downloading your current resume as a Word file and editing it offline
3. Using different browsers to store different versions

What happens if I clear my browser data?

+

Clearing browser data will remove your saved resumes. Always download your completed resumes as PDF or Word files for permanent storage. We recommend downloading after each editing session.

Troubleshooting

My resume isn't saving properly. What should I do?

+

Try these steps:
1. Ensure your browser allows local storage (most do by default)
2. Try using a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge work best)
3. Clear browser cache and try again
4. Download your resume immediately after completing each section

PDF download is not working. How can I fix this?

+

If PDF generation fails:
1. Try the "Print" option instead (Ctrl+P or Cmd+P)
2. Use the Word download option for an editable version
3. Ensure you have a stable internet connection (libraries load from CDN)
4. Try a different browser or update your current one

My resume looks different in the PDF. Why?

+

PDF conversion can sometimes cause minor formatting differences. For best results:
1. Use the "Print Preview" before downloading
2. Stick to standard fonts in the templates
3. Avoid extremely long paragraphs
4. Download as Word if you need precise formatting control

Privacy & Security

Is my resume data stored on your servers?

+

No! All your data stays in your browser's local storage. We don't have servers storing your information. This means:
1. Complete privacy - only you can access your data
2. No account creation required
3. Your information never leaves your device unless you download it

What happens if I use a different computer?

+

Your resume data is stored locally on each device. To access your resume on another computer:
1. Download your resume as a Word file on the original computer
2. Upload the Word file on the new computer using "Edit Existing Resume"
3. Or simply recreate the resume (takes only 10-15 minutes)

Is ProfileForge free to use? Any hidden costs?

+

ProfileForge is completely free with no hidden costs, subscriptions, or watermarks. We believe professional resume building should be accessible to everyone. You get:
1. All 7 professional templates
2. Unlimited downloads in all formats
3. No ads or upsells
4. Full privacy - your data stays with you

ATS Optimization Tip

Use the "Modern Pro" or "Executive" templates for ATS-heavy applications. These have the cleanest formatting for automated systems.

PDF Quality Tip

For best print quality, always download as PDF. The PDF is optimized for 300 DPI professional printing.

Data Safety Tip

Download your resume after each editing session. Browser storage can be cleared accidentally.

Template Selection

Match your template to your industry: Corporate → Executive, Tech → Modern Pro, Creative → Bold/Portfolio.
